Up to middle of XIX century Barceloneta quarter even was a neighborhood where the activities of its inhabitants were related to the sea: the fishing.
During the XX century, the industrial and port Barceloneta transformed in the resort of the city. As a result of its) privileged situation that was provoking that in summer was filled with Barcelonian bathers who were coming to enjoy the sea and the good fish.
This one last transformation has come until our days demonstrated in the activity of the neighborhood that its has been converted into a place to enjoy of good mediterranean food.
It is a neighborhood with very peculiar buildings, stairs and landings that preserve the exage that today is a fashion area for the Barcelona citizens and for the tourists. Barcelona is a city open to the sea, therefore Barceloneta and the Gothic Quarter are located almost the city center -see maps- and they have good comunication with public transportation.
